The other day my pals and I ventured out to Geneseo, Illinois, to visit the two new breweries that opened up late this summer. Our first stop with Geneseo Brewing Co.
The beer was delicious. I split a flight and tried everything on the menu. My favorite was the Hefeweizen, however, I was most impressed with the Berliner Weiss. Traditionally the beer is served with a syrup added into it, either raspberry of woodruff (green melon), and both options were available at GBC. It was nice to see, as it isn’t common from what I’ve experience in the Midwest. Both options were quite tasty.
Our second stop was Lionstone Brewery. We actually drove by it on the way to Geneseo Brewing Co., but we had heard great things about the pizza at Lionstone, so we decided to have dinner there. GBC does has some snacks, as you can see in the picture of the menu up above, and we did split the cheese platter, which was delicious.
We again all split a flight so we could try every single beer they had available. Much like the different in environments, Lionstone’s beer was also a bit louder. Where GBC was more balanced with a nod to more traditional styles, Lionstone had big, bold flavors.
The brew system at Lionstone is located back behind the bar, so I didn’t get too close of a look…
This is the oven that cooked our pizza, which was really good.
